Original Gustave Dore prints in this Deluxe Edition 1881 Family Bible from F.M. Dillie & Co. I tried but the pictures just can't capture the beauty of these Dore prints anything near what you can see with your naked eye. If you know someone really into Dore, that is the main selling point of this 124 year old book.
I'm looking at any offers between the $1200 and $2000 range. Obviously, this is allot, but for it's age, this books an exellent deal considering it was worth about 2000 back in 1979.

Re: Gustave Dore / Deluxe Edition 1881 Family Bible
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 2:58 PMI collect Dore, considering your description and the age of this book, it is in fair condition. It's a nice copy, however $2000 sounds high to me, even in 1970's pre-internet days. Depending on how quickly you want to move this book, you may want to adjust price against what is currently available through abebooks: www.abebooks.com .
Alternatively, you might get lucky with a bidup to your price range on ebay (make sure you set a reserve). Unfortunately though, you will find the market for these is slow and pretty saturated lately. Recent sales of similar editions via ebay auction have caught between $70 and $600. At these prices you might want to consider hanging on to a family heirloom like this instead and getting it restored. Best of luck.
